The Golden State Warriors’ 2023-24 season was a season to forget. The Warriors ended the regular season with a record of 46-36, which was good enough for the No. 10 seed in the Western Conference and a spot in the play-in tournament.

But Golden State’s stint in the tournament came to an abrupt end after the Dubs lost to the Sacramento Kings by 24 points on April 16.

As a result, Steph Curry and the company missed out on the NBA playoffs for the first time since the 2020-21 campaign.

Tracy McGrady speaks on what the Warriors need to compete next season

Following Golden State’s underwhelming campaign, former NBA star Tracy McGrady revealed what he believes the Warriors need to add to their roster in order to compete for a title in the 2024-25 season.

“I think they need another scorer. I still believe in Klay [Thompson]. I still believe in Steph [Curry]. Draymond [Green] had a phenomenal season, he just need to cut out the antics. Look at somebody like Donovan Mitchell, right? I don’t think he’s happy in Cleveland,” T-Mac said.

Mitchell is under contract through the 2024-25 season and has seen his name connected to the New York Knicks and Miami Heat in trade rumors over the past few months.

“I think they need size. They need a big man that can defend and rebound. They don’t necessarily need a big man that can score. They just need someone that could defend and rebound, and I thought Dwight Howard would have been perfect for them. Hadn’t all that stuff came out about him, he would have been perfect. I mean, I know they have to do a lot, but you still have your core guys that I still truly believe in. So if you make those necessary moves, I believe they can play for a championship,” McGrady added about the Dubs’ situation.

What scorer would make sense for the Warrior to pursue this summer?

DeMar DeRozan, Bulls reportedly have had "preliminary talks" about contract extension - NBC Sports

Besides Mitchell, another excellent scorer who could be obtainable for the Warriors in the offseason is DeMar DeRozan.

DeRozan, who is set to hit unrestricted free agency in a few months’ time, averaged 24.0 points per game while shooting 48.0 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from deep across 79 appearances with the Chicago Bulls in the 2023-24 regular season.

The six-time NBA All-Star is averaging 21.2 points per game for his career and would add another layer of offensive power that would push the GSW toward their last chance of getting another ring.
