Franchise star Ludacris responds to Vin Diesel’s comments regarding whether Fast & Furious 11 will be the final movie. Diesel returned as Dominic Toretto last year for Fast X, the tenth installment in the popular car-based action franchise. While Diesel initially teased that a twelfth film could be on the way, a recent post from the Dom actor on Instagram suggested that Fast & Furious 11 will indeed serve as the conclusion of the main Fast Saga.

In a recent interview with People, Ludacris comments on whether the announced Fast & Furious 11 will be the last one. The actor’s comment is much more ambiguous than Diesel’s, and he says “we shall see” regarding the franchise’s future. Check out Ludacris’ full comment below:

“The last one was open-ended, so to speak. It kind of left people hanging. I feel like we are definitely going to come back at some point very soon to surprise everyone. Will it be the last? I don’t know, but we shall see. A lot of other franchises, they may end, but they don’t really end. It’s almost like the beginning of something new, so I don’t feel like it’ll ever truly end either, but you never know.”

What The Response To Fast X Says About The Franchise

While Diesel and the Fast & Furious cast seem to love making these movies, there’s certainly an argument to be made that the franchise has now run its course. What started as a scrappy movie series more or less about car racing has transformed into mega-budget blockbuster fare in which Dom and the other characters essentially have superpowers. There was certainly fun to be had with this shift in direction and tone, but the reception to Fast X hints that it might be time for the saga to end before it really goes off the rails.

As with F9, it’s 2021 predecessor, the Fast X reviews were not positive. Critics took issue with the ballooning cast, the baffling car stunts, and Diesel’s overly-serious performance in a franchise that has become increasingly silly. Past entries in the Fast & Furious franchise have also struggled with critics, however, and it’s audiences that have historically kept the property thriving. With the latest installment, however, cracks have started to develop in this foundation.

Though it’s certainly nothing to sneeze at, Fast X’s box office of $704.9 million is the lowest grossing entry in the franchise since 2011. This figure is made worse by the fact that the latest film reportedly had a budget of around $340 million. This financial underperformance could be why Diesel seemingly changed his tune about there being a twelfth movie. It remains to be seen whether Fast & Furious 11 will be the end, but signs suggest that the franchise may be running out of gas.
