Snoop Dogg explained why you don’t hear much from Eminem anymore – and gave his thoughts on why other rappers think they can get away with dissing him.
At this point in his career, Eminem needs no introduction. He was catapulted to fame following the release of his debut album Infinite in 1996 and is now widely regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time, with a string of number-one albums and more awards than you can shake a stick at.
Alongside rapping, he’s also tried his hand at acting – making his Hollywood debut in the 2002 flick 8 Mile, which was loosely based on his own life.
However, after picking up a few roles to add to his resume, Eminem told Jonathon Ross in 2010 that his heart was more into rapping than acting.
“You know, I love music so much,” he told the TV host. “This is my passion, this is what I want to do. Not saying that I won’t do a movie ever again, but this is me.”
But having said that, Eminem hasn’t exactly been pumping out new music in recent years.
And during an interview on the Full Send podcast last year, Eminem’s long-time friend and collaborator Snoop Dogg was asked why it wasn’t that Eminem doesn’t ‘do s**t’ anymore, to which Snoop explained that the legendary rapper was now in a position to pick and choose what he wanted to do.
Snoop said: “He do what he have to do, but I think when you’ve been the biggest rapper in the world for so many years, it’s like what more can you do?
“You know? I think it’s… he’s finding his moments now, finding when he wants to come and when he wants to drop and pop because, you know, his fan ain’t going nowhere.”
Snoop then went on to explain why it was that other rappers felt they could disrespect him, saying it was because ‘they know he’s sitting in his shell right now’.
“And what they gonna do is make him pop that motherf***ing shell open.
“People take shots at rappers like that because that rapper is invisible for the moment, but that is the way to getting back visible, when you start poking the bear. He still is who he is. Do not get it f**ed up.
“You poke the bear with your nails, you get your nails broke.”
