Eminem is offering a glimpse into his past struggles with addiction. During a recent appearance on Paul Rosenberg’s podcast, the rapper delved into his harrowing experience with a near-fatal overdose 15 years ago.

Eminem previously disclosed his battle with prescription drug addiction, culminating in a 2007 hospitalization after accidentally overdosing on methadone.

“It took a long time for my brain to start working again,” Eminem confided in his longtime manager, Rosenberg.

Rosenberg elaborated, “You were literally coming off an overdose, and they had to stabilize you with medications. Adjusting to some of them took a minute, to say the least. So, in a way, you were almost literally re-learning how to rap, right? Because it was probably the first time you were creating without substances in your system in… however many years, right?”

The conversation then shifted to Rosenberg’s concerns about the lasting effects of the overdose on Eminem’s career.

“Didn’t you ask the doctors when I first started rapping again if I had any brain damage?” Eminem inquired.

“Yeah,” Rosenberg admitted, “I thought you might have some permanent problems. Yeah, I was definitely concerned.”
