Tennis titan Roger Federer, fresh off announcing San Francisco as the host city for his Laver Cup brainchild, might be trading his racquet for a paddle! During a recent interview, Federer dished on the booming popularity of pickleball in the US, admitting, “I might have to start playing it, who knows?”
While Federer confessed he’s never played pickleball (believe it or not!), he’s dabbled in padel, another racquet sport popular in Europe. But the rapid growth of pickleball, especially amongst his fellow tennis stars, has piqued his interest.
“I know Jack Sock’s on the pickleball tour,” Federer chuckled, “and some other tennis players are trying it.” Names like Andre Agassi, Maria Sharapova, and even Steffi Graf have all taken a swing at the paddle sport.
With its increasing popularity and ease of adaptation for tennis players, pickleball might just be Federer’s next challenge. After all, who wouldn’t want to see the legendary forehand unleashed on the pickleball court?
