Roger Federer is adjusting to life after tennis, embracing a new rhythm that prioritizes family, travel, and a healthy balance. The former World No. 1, who retired in 2022 with a final appearance at the Laver Cup, recently opened up about his post-retirement experiences on the ATP Tennis Radio Podcast.
However, six months in, Federer feels more in control of his time. “It’s been good honestly,” he shared, “but I have to be careful I don’t do too many things.” The key, he says, is striking a balance. While he enjoys being busy, spending time with family and traveling the world are also high priorities.
Finding the right balance is crucial, and Federer seems to have achieved it. “I love being with my family, and I love to travel,” he said. “Sometimes, I try to make sure I get the right balance and I feel like I have that, so, things are great.”
Staying away from the tour hasn’t been difficult for Federer physically. “When you know your knee doesn’t allow you to play at this level, your mind doesn’t even go there,” he explained. Accepting this reality allows him to enjoy tennis as a spectator. “I follow the results almost daily,” he said, “I like to see what’s going on out there.”
Federer still feels a connection to the sport, but on his own terms. “I have a great time, when I dive back in, like coming here to Shanghai, I feel really happy,” he shared. “When I am not there, I feel happy where I am, so I go with the flow and I like that no day is ever the same.”
His tennis viewership habits have also changed. “Mostly highlights,” he admitted, “With the children and all the stuff that’s going on in my life, it’s hard to say like, ‘Okay, on that day I will watch that match.'”
Roger Federer’s retirement journey is one of adaptation and exploration. He’s embracing a new chapter, filled with family, travel, and a newfound sense of control over his time. As he settles into this new rhythm, it’s clear that the joy of life remains a constant for the tennis legend.
