Kobe often studied other people excelling in their domain, and the young music icon was one of them.
When it comes to reaching the peak of athletic success, few possess the innate talent and unwavering determination needed to excel on a global scale. Kobe Bryant, the late Los Angeles Lakers legend, not only displayed remarkable skill on the basketball court but also showed an unmatched dedication to growth and self-improvement.
Beyond his God-given abilities, Bryant positioned himself as a genuine student of the game, carefully learning about his role models and finding motivation from a wide range of exceptional figures across different domains, from business to the music industry.
Kobe studying other great people
One interesting, to say the least, example of Bryant’s unorthodox approach to greatness was his interest in the world of entertainment, particularly the rise of music sensation Taylor Swift. Despite his status as a basketball icon, Bean’s curiosity extended beyond the bounds of the court, leading him to delve into Taylor’s remarkable and swift (pun intended) journey to stardom.
“I think it’s important to listen to people who do great things. You know Taylor has been on top of the game for a very, very long time, so how and why?” Kobe elaborated in an interview on The Jordan Harbinger Show in 2019.
“How does she write? How does she get into that space in order to create things over and over and over again? It’s a lot of pressure for her to follow up a number one album with a better, then follow up with a better. I don’t care if you like her music or you don’t like her music. Look at what she is doing, and that is frightening stuff and it’s unbelievable to be able to pull that off over and over and over. You can’t have that level of consistent success and not be a killer; it’s impossible,” he added.
Similar paths, similar success
Bryant found Swift’s impact on the music industry fascinating, admiring her early success. As an avid fan, he recognized her drive for excellence, akin to his own pursuit of greatness.
Comparing their journeys reveals some similarities: both faced pressure to succeed early on, transitioning from rising stars to global icons. Taylor’s evolution from country sensation to worldwide star mirrors Kobe’s ascent from rookie to basketball legend.
Their shared dedication and talent led to numerous achievements, inspiring others across diverse fields and in their respective domains; both artists remain among the very best, boasting a shelf full of awards as proof of their legacy.
