Lil Wayne thinks the LA Lakers have what it takes to win the NBA Championship.

The LA Lakers are finding their rhythm at a critical juncture in the 2023-24 regular season, sparking optimism among their loyalists for another potential deep run in the postseason. Following their impressive five-game winning streak, Lil Wayne warned the NBA about the Purple and Gold’s potential to win it all.

Despite currently occupying a Play-In Tournament berth, Wayne highlighted the star power within the Lakers’ roster, who can turn the tide at any moment, with or without LeBron James.

“Especially what they did last year, it shouldn’t be a surprise but it surprised me,” Wayne on not counting out the Lakers from the title race. “So, when you see that, it’s kind of like that they got that Patrick Mahomes that Tom Brady thing about, ‘Don’t bet against them’ that type of thing going on.”

Lakers players think they’re far better than their current seeding

The resurgence of coach Darvin Ham’s team has lifted the spirits of their loyal fanbase and analysts and made players like D’Angelo Russell confident in the team’s ability to dominate.

Despite currently holding the ninth seed with a 41-32 record, the 28-year-old point guard expressed his belief that the team is far better than their seeding in the Western Conference.

Moreover, while discussing the Lakers’ roster depth, D’Lo emphasized the presence of 12 capable players who can make significant contributions on the court, acknowledging it as a potential challenge but saw it as a beneficial situation that could prepare the team even better for the playoffs.

The Purple and Gold are not out of the Top 6 race

With only 9 games left in the regular season, the Lakers find themselves just 4 wins behind the 5th-seeded New Orleans Pelicans. Their aspirations to secure a direct playoff berth shouldn’t be underestimated, particularly since four of their remaining nine games are against teams already eliminated from postseason contention.

This implies that the 2020 NBA Champs have the luxury of resting their marquee players in preparation for their final games of the regular season, wherein two of the last three are against the Pelicans and Warriors.

Furthermore, the simplicity of the Lakers’ remaining schedule becomes apparent when compared to that of the Phoenix Suns, who have eight of their remaining nine games against playoff contenders from the West. This schedule only magnifies the impact of every loss for the Suns. Similarly, even the Dallas Mavericks (6th-seeded) have eight of their 10 remaining games against postseason-bound teams, with 6 of them entailing a two-game swing opportunity.
